Living at Peace – Really?

How many of you are not at peace even with members of your own family?  There is turmoil and ‘stuff’ that needs to be dealt with but nobody has the courage to face the tough issues.  Does God really expect us to live at peace?  Yes, and I quote, ‘Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.’  God’s words out of Hebrews 12:14.  Wow, we are really suppose to pursue peace with one another.  I see this lack of peace on a personal level daily due to my counseling with couples and families.  Many of us consider peace in regards to nations and governments, heck if we can’t be at peace in our homes we will never be at peace in our nations.  So how is this to be done?  One huge key is to address issues that rise to the surface.  As an example, ‘My son decides he will choose to disrespect my wife.’  (Yes it is a choice).  Do I ignore the issue and let mom deal with our son, or do I step in and teach the wrong he has shown my wife.  Many would say to avoid conflict is the way to peace.  Many see conflict and confrontation as non-peaceable, actually the truth is confrontation has to occur to achieve peace.  I need to step in and confront my son and train him in the proper way to address his mother, thus training him in honor and peace.  Who are you not at peace with today in your home?  Pray for that person, ask God how to confront in love and go.  Go to that person and address the issue, God will bless your efforts.
